Retirement Resources
When it comes to planning for retirement, there are so many things to consider that it can sometimes be hard to know where to start. Here we’ve compiled a list of resources you may find useful.
The first stop for most people should probably be the Social Security website. As you’d expect, this is the place to find official information on everything related to social security benefits. This site also offers a retirement planner, which tells you what you’ll need to do to qualify for social security, and a retirement estimator, to estimate how much you can expect in benefits. The Social Security administration recommends applying for benefits three months before you want them to begin. Early retirement (at reduced benefits) is available starting at age 62. Full retirement benefits are available from age 65 for people born before 1938; for those born later, the retirement age varies; as of this writing, the latest age for full retirement is 67 for those born in 1960 or later. You can also delay taking benefits, if desired; the monthly amount you’re entitled to will increase until you turn 70, after which there is no further benefit for delaying benefits. However, even if you delay taking your social security benefits, you should still sign up for Medicare when you reach full retirement age.
If it will be a while before you reach retirement and you’re looking at investment options, Twenties Retirement is a good choice for getting a quick rundown on various options. These days, it can be hard to search for information on financial products without getting mostly advertising; this site does the research for you without trying to sell you anything. While it’s been around for years, the site has lately been growing very rapidly, so the information on it is very up to date.
On the other hand, if you’re not looking forward to retirement, here are a few retirement quotes to lighten up your day!
