I have taught my grandsons a little about bird watching. We go on nature walks together. We enjoy the outdoors. One of the legacies that I am going to leave behind for my grandchildren is that I care about the environment. Lately, I have been researching the possibility of having a green burial. When I die, I want to leave with little or no disruption to my friend, Mother Earth.

Here is the plan. Hopefully, I will have some notice that I am going to die, but not too much. I want to die at home and not in the hospital. I want to have some time while I am still lucid to say goodbye and to make some last arrangements with bills and paperwork. I also want to make sure that I have a funeral arranged so that it is not a burden on the family. I would then like to have the services in my home, with no embalming fluids that are toxic to the environment and the water system. After I die, I would like to use bio cremation to reduce my body to bones because it uses less energy and does not spew pollutants into the air. The bones will be reduced to ashes, similar to a regular cremation and these will be returned to the family. The ashes can then be spread in a favorite park on onto a favorite lake so that I will not be using any land that has to be maintained for years and using a valuable piece of real estate for storage. I will also avoid an expensive casket that is a waste of resources.

If this is your first time making wine you probably don’t have ANY of the equipment you need, but that’s okay, I didn’t either and all told it wasn’t very hard to gather the right stuff.  You do need plastic buckets though – big, five gallon buckets, because when you are racking the wine they will come in handy.

When you are mixing ingredients it is also helpful to have at least a few plastic buckets so you can move fluids from one container to another without much difficulty.

The other absolutely critical item are airlocks.  As far as home wine making equipment goes, there is nothing more important than finding good airlocks.

What do they do?

They allow carbon dioxide to flow out of your wine fermenting barrel without letting the oxygen leak out – if the oxygen is gone the wine will turn sour and the fermentation process will be completely wasted.

Attaching airlocks keeps the fermenting process exactly the way that it should be, by getting all of the carbon dioxide out without running the risk of causing detriment to the entire batch.  Like I said, shop out and buy a few of these, because they will last a long time and provide a tremendous benefit to the finished product.

The final step is getting a good carboy that you are happy with.  The carboy is what you use to actually ferment the wine (we often call these barrels but the professional term is carboy).  I recommend buying two of these so that when you are transitioning wine it doesn’t have to wait in buckets for the single carboy to be rinsed and cleaned.  They are not expensive so investing in two of them is worth its weight in gold – it will save you lots of time.

The Hunter 44360 can be fixed to most types of 24 volt HVAC systems. The only drawback is that it can only regulate single stage heating and cooling. It is also reliant on batteries.

It is possible to install the Hunter 44360 yourself. It shouldn’t take longer than 1 hour. The thermostat is a 7 day thermostat. This means that it gives you a program to set up for each day of the week. Each day is divided into 4 periods: morning, afternoon, evening and night. There is a digital display with blue back light to check your settings as you put them in. This worked really well for me. When I was in a rush I could quickly do one session, lasting actually around 15 minutes including warm up and cool down. When I had more time I could do all three. This way, it was flexible enough for me to get in to a routine and I did it pretty much every day.

Here’s a closer look at each of the workouts.

1. Cardio

This focuses on getting a good aerobic session under your belt. There are a set of resistance bands that come with the program that you can attach to the hinges of a door. You then connect the other end of the band to a provided belt around your waist. I love this one. I didn’t realize how little I stretched before and after I played sport. Clearly that’s been the cause of some of the strains and sprains I’ve been suffering from. This quick lightweight session was a great first look at yoga for me.

4. Lower Body

All about the quads and gluts. My thighs seriously burn after I’ve done this one.

5. Abs

The hardest one for me. Unless really thinking about it, most people don’t do that much work on their abs. I didn’t and it really told. But 4 weeks in and I could do pretty much every one of the exercises without stopping.

At the end of one of the innermost bays is the town of Kotor, huddled on a narrow lowland at the foot of the Lovcen. And winding up the looming massif – t rises to 5,737 feet, or 1,749 meters – is a road composed of a succession of hairpin turns. With every bend the intrepid traveler is presented with new and sweeping views of the entire gulf. Looking down across the network of sheltered bays, visitors can easily understand why the gulf has been valued since antiquity for its maritime and strategic importance. Kotor itself was founded as an outpost of the Roman Empire, and the gulf was controlled in turn by Turks, Venetians, and various other nationalities.

Today the gulf still has important naval facilities, and several of the towns along its shores are centers of light industry. But because of its natural beauty, mild climate, and many architectural and artistic treasures, it is also a popular vacation resort. In contrast to the stark fringing mountains, which are hot in summer and cold in winter, the lowlands around the gulf enjoy a mild Mediterranean climate. Cactuses, palms, and citrus trees, in addition to other subtropical plants, enhance the beauty of charming towns dating from the Middle Ages.

The configuration of the bays making up the Gulf of Kotor is quite unusual. The gulf essentially is composed of two long, narrow, water filled valleys that lie between a series of highlands paralleling the seacoast. A breach in the first row of hills forms the entrance from the sea to the first flooded valley. A break in the second line of hills forms the channel that leads to the second flooded valley. The gulf thus is shaped more or less like a giant letter H lying on its side parallel to the coast.

How did this extraordinarily shel-tered system of waterways come into being? The process began about 200 million years ago, when the area lay beneath the sea and thick deposits of limestone were formed on the ocean floor. Subsequently uplifted above the sea, the crust was subjected to stresses about 40 million years ago that cornpressed it into a series of corrugated folds parallel to the seacoast. The upfolds eventually became parallel rows of mountain ridges; the down folds became intervening valleys.

All might have remained dry land except for rivers that were already present when the folding began. As the folds were slowly uplifted, these antecedent streams eroded steep valleys across the rising ridges, carving water gaps as they maintained their courses toward the sea.

In more recent times the entire coastal zone of Montenegro has been subsiding very slowly into the sea, as evidenced by frequent earthquakes throughout the area. In addition, at the end of the last ice age sea levels rose all around the world. As a result, the sea was able to invade the water gaps, flooding once dry interior valleys and creating the fjord like waterways of the Gulf of Kotor.  Sarah live and works in the Czech Republic and loves travelling.

PROS

• Durability. Pavers will last for many years without having to be replaced; you will most likely outlive your paver installations!
• Strength. Pavers can withstand all kind of environmental stresses, from bad weather to parked vehicles and everything in between. The joint system  in between the bricks will also keep the pavers from cracking due to freeze/thaw cycles, a problem that plagues slab options like asphalt and concrete.
• Beauty. Many homeowners say that concrete pavers look as stunning as natural stone; I’m inclined to agree. And at a fraction of the cost, what could be better?
• Value. Often the price of your home and property will increase when you use this material, simply because people recognize the quality and value of having a hardscape project paved with paving stones.
• Low maintenance. This is a great feature for those who don’t like to slave over their hardscape projects all day long. Pavers can go with only periodic cleaning and sweeping. In addition, sealing the pavers once every two years isn’t required, but it is  a great way to maintain their beauty and resistance to stains over the years.

CONS

• Price. Despite being high value, pavers can be expensive, usually ranging from $10 to $15 per square foot, depending on the type of paver you use, the type of project, and the specifications of the contractor you select.
• Can stain. Like any concrete product, the porous nature of the material can absolutely suck up stains, making them stubbornly difficult to remove unless you get on top of them right away. There are some cleaners that can help you remove these stains, and if worse comes to worse you can always replace the entire brick without having to tear up the entire installation.
