A Look At The 5 Workouts That Make Up Tony Horton’s 10 Minute Trainer

First off, a bit of background. The Tony Horton 10 Minute Trainer program consists of 5 workout sessions, each one lasting for 10 minutes. I started off with one a day, but the workout schedule that comes with the videos allows up to 3 workouts a day.

This worked really well for me. When I was in a rush I could quickly do one session, lasting actually around 15 minutes including warm up and cool down. When I had more time I could do all three. This way, it was flexible enough for me to get in to a routine and I did it pretty much every day.

Here’s a closer look at each of the workouts.

1. Cardio

This focuses on getting a good aerobic session under your belt. There are a set of resistance bands that come with the program that you can attach to the hinges of a door. You then connect the other end of the band to a provided belt around your waist. You can certainly do the session without the bands (and some doors don’t have the hinges in the right place) but they do add some very effective resistance to the routine, and with the kicks, they help you balance too.

As well as kicks, Cardio is all about lunges, jumps and virtual tires and plenty of running on the spot and in circles. Good fun and lots of variety.

2. Total Body

All about, well, everything. Focusing on the legs, gluts, arms, shoulders and core muscles at the same time. I’m always pretty short of breath by the end too, so it’s a good cardiovascular workout too.

3. Yoga Flex

I love this one. I didn’t realize how little I stretched before and after I played sport. Clearly that’s been the cause of some of the strains and sprains I’ve been suffering from. This quick lightweight session was a great first look at yoga for me.

4. Lower Body

All about the quads and gluts. My thighs seriously burn after I’ve done this one.

5. Abs

The hardest one for me. Unless really thinking about it, most people don’t do that much work on their abs. I didn’t and it really told. But 4 weeks in and I could do pretty much every one of the exercises without stopping.

I hope that’s given you a good overview of what the program includes. You might want to check out this 10 Minute Trainer review for some more detail if you’ve got the time. Thanks very much.
